I am so sad to be back at work today, not because I am at work but because that means an end to a really fun getaway! On Sunday my aunt, mom, sister, and I left for the 7 hour drive to Mackinac Island. We stopped along the way, enjoying little towns and for a bite to eat. The scenic drive up to Mackinac Island, while long, is very beautiful and worth the time.
We stayed at this beautiful, yellow bed and breakfast on the island called "Bay View Bed and Breakfast". The stay there was very comfortable and the employees were not only helpful but very friendly. However, while the "bed" part of the place may have been nice the "breakfast" was more questionable. The food wasn't horrible by any means, just wasn't anything I would go back for. Needless to say, the back deck's view was worth the stay!
On Monday, we visited the fort on the top of the hill while awaiting Ian's arrival. The walk was kinda long up there but the views were amazing. We were able to get in a little history and also be able to spot the boat Ian was on from a distance. (See Below)
Ian and crew ended up finishing in the top 50 boats (out of 300 I believe) in the race, and was in 10 place in their section. They also were the first boat of that model to cross the finish line. So needless to say skipper Ed and crew were very happy with how they did.
On Monday night, Ian and I went out to dinner with the rest of the Jason crew and wives. We had a really fun evening out on the town, followed by one too many rum and cokes at the pink pony :) I wore my favorite vineyard vines dress to dinner which was first posted here: Vineyard Vines Dress
Unfortunately the dress is sold out, but here's one similar: Shift Dress
On Tuesday, us ladies went for a bike ride around the entire island. We got to see some beautiful views, get a little exercise and enjoy time just us ladies! Before biking around, we were able to hop aboard the Jason and get a tour from Ian.
Tuesday afternoon was also the sailor's rum party on the green below the Grand Hotel. This year, the party was moved closer to the water, so we weren't on the grounds of the Grand. Ian and I had a really great time catching up with some sailors, meeting new people, and of course enjoying a few cocktails. After the party, we met my mom, aunt, and sister for dinner at the Gate House where we enjoyed a yummy dinner on the patio. Ian and I ended the evening by meeting up with some of the Jason crew and dancing together at a bar called The Horn. Needless to say we had an amazing time together.
Ian wore this vineyard vine button up made of linen which was great for walking around in the heat.
I wore a classic white dress and blue jean jacket.
