With my upcoming travel plans, I thought I would share some of my favorite tips for packing the most you can into a carry on luggage and keeping it wrinkle (ok pretty much wrinkle) free! These tips have never failed me, and I even was able to convince my mom that this was the way to pack during our Florida trip earlier this year. Follow these tips and you'll be a packing pro!
What do you roll? What do you fold?
I've always heard the advice- roll your clothing, you will have more space and less wrinkles. Well, I don't know about you but every rolling technique I tried left me with wrinkly clothes upon arrival. So I began to get fed up and did some research.
Here's what I've found is safe to roll:
- sweat shorts
- workout tanks
- undershirts
-Leggings
I then put them between the metal bars at the bottom of my luggage as you can see below. These items, when rolled, fit perfectly and use once considered useless space
Here's what I carefully fold:
-Dresses
-Dress Shirts
-Jeans
-Delicate Clothing
You want these items to be folded as less as possible. Best way to do so is to line one end of the garment with one side of the suitcase and then first fold is at the other side. Continue going back and forth until the garment is fully folded.
What gets folded normally:
-Tee Shirts
-Work out Shirts
-PJS
-Jean Shorts
I just put these on the top. I also try and fold the outfit for the next day so I don't have to dig around my bag for it. Especially since Ian and I are immediately leaving on a road trip the morning after I arrive in Annapolis.
Don't forget about that front compartment!
My luggage is not as fancy as some with inside storage, but I'm totally fine with that because it allows for more space in my suitcase. Besides, I've found my own way of organizing the front compartment.
I put my swim suits in the sailboat bag so they are all in one place ready to.
The green bag (that Annabel the cat is nicely guarding) is my little baggy for underwear and socks.
I also have my two cover ups (top left) in the front compartment, my bras for the trip, and a set of PJS ready to go when I arrive in Annapolis.
Extra Tips
Don't forget a quart size bag for dirty underwear. This keeps your undies separated from the dirty ones
Keep the bags shirts and dresses come in for your more delicate and precious clothing items. Whenever traveling, I put my favorite tops I don't want ruined in their original bag it came in to protect it from damage.
Do you have any tips for making traveling easier and more efficient? Are you a roller or a folder? Comment below :)
Look for my post later this week about what's in my Lulu Lemon carry on bag and how I pack my shoes. And of course the cocktail in the spotlight on Friday.
